In a significant development aimed at bolstering food security in Yemen, Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has joined forces with the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office to fund a $10 million project. This initiative is designed to assist vulnerable communities and enhance their long-term resilience.
Under this collaborative agreement, both KSrelief and the UK government will allocate $5 million each. The United Nations World Food Programme will oversee the execution of this project across several Yemeni governorates, including Al-Mahrah, Hadramout, Aden, Al-Dhale, and Lahij. The focus is on providing conditional cash transfers to improve food accessibility, restore key infrastructure, and facilitate a shift for families from relying on emergency food aid to achieving self-reliance.
Beyond immediate food assistance, the initiative encompasses vocational training, support for local governance, and strategies to enhance the sustainable management of community resources. This holistic approach is aimed at equipping communities with the skills and infrastructure needed to sustain themselves in the long run.
This agreement is part of Saudi Arabia’s broader humanitarian mission, executed through KSrelief, which has played a pivotal role in global aid efforts. Since 2015, KSrelief has carried out over 4,400 projects valued at more than $8.5 billion across 113 countries, highlighting its commitment to providing comprehensive aid and support to those in need.
