Hosted by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast from September 18 to 20, the summit is expected to foster over €1 billion in investment agreements, showcasing nearly 100 projects from participating countries.
This new regional forum brings together leaders and representatives from eight countries—Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Czechia, Hungary, Slovakia, and Austria. The summit’s focus on strengthening transport and energy infrastructure aims to boost regional mobility and expand trade links, crucial steps in bolstering the Carpathian region’s economic resilience.
In attendance were Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Romanian President Nicusor Dan, and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, among others. Their discussions emphasized the importance of cross-border economic cooperation and the potential for coordinated support of Ukraine’s European integration efforts. Poland, reiterating its support for Ukraine, underscored the necessity of regional collaboration.
The economic segment of the summit drew around 500 business representatives, highlighting the potential for increased investment and business ventures within the region. This gathering provided a platform for countries with varying positions on military aid to Ukraine to find common ground in economic and infrastructural development.
As the summit progresses, participating nations are expected to continue dialogues on regional security and economic strategies, fostering a cooperative environment that could lead to improved regional stability and prosperity. The Carpathian 8 Summit marks a significant step towards a more unified and economically integrated region.
