Apple’s annual product showcase delivered a striking new headliner: the iPhone Air. CEO Tim Cook, speaking from the company’s Cupertino headquarters, introduced the device as the “biggest leap ever” for the iPhone, emphasizing a design-forward philosophy. The new model boasts an incredibly slim 5.6mm profile, setting a new benchmark for smartphone engineering since the original iPhone’s debut in 2007.
Crafted from what Apple calls “spacecraft titanium,” the iPhone Air is not just about its thinness. It features a large 6.5-inch display and is available in a new palette of colors designed to “evoke lightness.” Despite its slender frame, executives assured the audience of its durability and crack-resistance, promising it would stand up to daily use without compromising on strength.
The tech giant confirmed that the svelte design does not come at the expense of performance. The iPhone Air includes the same fast-charging battery, advanced WiFi capabilities, and core features found in its thicker counterparts. The new iPhone 17 lineup also includes updated Standard, Pro, and Pro Max models, all receiving boosts in camera technology, processing speed, and battery longevity.
Set to retail at $999, the iPhone Air will be available for preorder this Friday, with a general release on September 19. The event also saw the launch of new AirPods Pro with live translation and an Apple Watch Series 11 focused on advanced health monitoring, rounding out a comprehensive refresh of Apple’s flagship products.
